About legality

The main question we received since the format was made public is about legality regarding cards from sets not included in the "legal sets" part of the rules.

First of all remember that on the very first post of this blog we literally mentioned the following:

"All original prints and  reprints (old border+original art) are legal and welcome. Bring in your 5th edition Shivan Dragons!

As a clarification, of course local communities are free to accept 30th anniversary, CE or IE prints as legal.

But I think we can make a little more graphic and didactic post using the howling mine, a beloved classic as a perfect example of this.

Legal because both in Revised and 4th edition

Perfectly legal, of course, any of these would be fine to play with. LEGAL!

But what about 5th or 6th edition for example?

As you can see, old border, original art. A perfect fit in any deck! LEGAL!

But... what happens with older ones? Alpha, Beta, maybe Unlimited?? Is Summer even legal?

Do we notice the trend? Of coure, if you can afford them and that's how you roll... No bling shaming! LEGAL!

But I hear you asking... are any of these legal?

And the answer is: Of course not. Some have an old border but not the original art, some have the original art but not the old border and then you'll find those that have none of that. Shoo, begone with them! NOT LEGAL!

BUT! And This is a big BUT. What happens with this?

I'ts a fairly new print yes!

BUT (here it comes), old frame, original art. So also legal. LEGAL!
